Bill Dekle, KV6Z

This presentation discusses the characteristics of the Magnetic Loop Antenna and how those characteristics determine the advantages and disadvantages of this type of antenna. The focus will be on addressing the issues that contribute to low efficiency, and to clarify some misconceptions and misuse of the parameters of the small transmitting loop often found in the literature. The information will be presented in an easy-to-understand way and the minimal use of mathematically derived concepts will be fully explained.

Biography:

I was first licensed in Pennsylvania in1974 as WN3ZBD while working on my electrical engineering degree after doing 4 years in the Navy as a Communications Technician. My station at that time consisted of a homebrew 2-tube CW transmitter and a National NC-60 receiver. I still remember my first QSO on the 40-meter novice band with that station

Although I had a lapse in my radio activities while pursuing post graduate studies, a career in the aerospace industry, and teaching college engineering courses, I’m now back into CW QRP as KV6Z. I am currently retired and live with my wife Ursula near Claremore, Oklahoma

I’m constantly trying to improve the compactness and portability of my radio equipment and enjoy operating portable. Fortunately, I found the Four State QRP Group where like-minded operators are willing to share their expertise and experience

Some of my past hobbies have included playing Bluegrass fiddle, building split bamboo fly rods, and kayaking
