Test Equipment for the QRP'er
Graham Firth, G3MFJ
Graham Firth, G3MFJ comes all the way from Leeds, England on his first visit to OzarkCon. Graham will discuss test equipment for the QRP'er that we can build at little expense.
Graham
was first licenced as G3MFJ in 1957 whilst still at school. When he
left school, he went to work for the public telephone company and
stayed with them until he retired in 1992. He now is very involved with
his local village community, and he repairs musical keyboards,
professional stage lighting, video & audio equipment.
Graham
has always built his own equipment both transmitters, receivers and
test equipment, starting with crystal sets, then valves, transistors
and beyond. He has tried most aspects of amateur radio - CW, AM, SSB,
RTTY, ATV, Aurora & Amateur satellites to name but a few. He
finally bought his first new transceiver a few years ago - an FT-817.
He has always been QRP – initially as he built his own transmitters and
could not afford QRO PA valves & transistors, but nowadays as he
feels that it’s more fun with low power.
Graham still builds a
lot of electronic equipment – a recent project being a complete
electronic remote controlled stage lighting system for the local
village hall. He also plays bass guitar in the village folk/rock band.
Graham lives near Leeds, in the North of England, is married to Pat and
together they have a son, three daughters and three grandchildren.
Graham
is deeply involved in the workings of the G-QRP Club – he is the
treasurer for the club and he runs the sales desk. As well as G3MFJ. he
also holds the U.S. Extra Licence W3MFJ.
